柳沢正史さんがClarivateより2023年のCitation Laureates（引用栄誉賞）に選ばれました。
本賞は医学生物学、物理学、化学、経済学の分野ごとに2000回以上引用された論文の著者の中から、研究分野やトレンドを加味して選出されます。柳沢さんは、Clifford B. Saper博士（ハーバード大学）、Emmanuel Mignot博士（スタンフォード大学）とともに、医学生物学分野の引用栄誉賞に選ばれました。受賞理由は”For genetic and physiological studies of the sleep/wake cycle and the discovery of hypocretin/orexin as important regulators of sleep involved in the cause of narcolepsy（睡眠・覚醒サイクルの遺伝学的および生理学的研究と、ナルコレプシーの原因に関わる重要な睡眠調節因子としてのオレキシンの発見に対して）”
医学生物学分野では、他に「がんに対するCAR-T療法の開発」および「人体のマイクロバイオームエコシステム解明」に対しても引用栄誉賞が授与されています。
今回の受賞理由になっていませんが、柳沢さんの最も引用されている論文は、1988年にNature誌に掲載されたエンドセリン発見論文であり、2023年11月時点で15,000回近く引用されています。
Yanagisawa san was awarded Clarivate Citation Laureate 2023. This award is given to authors of papers cited more than 2000 times in the fields of Physiology and Medicine, Physics, Chemistry, and Economics, with consideration of research fields and academic trends. Yanagisawa san, along with Dr. Clifford B. Saper (Harvard University) and Dr. Emmanuel Mignot (Stanford University), was selected in the field of Physiology and Medicine. The reason for the award is “For genetic and physiological studies of the sleep/wake cycle and the discovery of hypocretin/orexin as important regulators of sleep involved in the cause of narcolepsy.”
In the field of Physiology and Medicine, Citation awards have also been given for “Chimeric antigen receptor T-cell therapy for the treatment of cancer” and “Revealing the complex microbial ecosystems of the human body”
Although it is not the reason for this award, Yanagisawa’s most cited paper is his 1988 paer on the discovery of endothelin published in Nature, which has been cited nearly 15,000 times as of November 2023.
